Make a metal trivet yourself

Equipment

2 plastic sheets Scissors Wire mesh (15 x 15 cm) with very fine mesh (2 x 4 mm) 81 washers (16 x 5 mm) Adhesive 1 transparent silicone tube (for sanitary facilities) Paper towel

Production

10 '- Preparation of the various elements Place a plastic sheet in front of you to protect your worktop. With the scissors, cut a 15 x 15 cm square from the fine mesh. Degrease the washers with soap. Apply adhesive so that it plugs the inner hole of each washer.

20 '- Arrangement of washers

Apply a small amount of silicone in one of the corners of the mesh. Place a washer on top (face protected by the adhesive at the top), applying pressure so that the silicone hangs well on the washer. Place nine washers to the next corner. Repeat this row nine times. Attention, make the washers protrude 1 millimeter from the edge of the mesh. Wipe away the silicone stains as you go with paper towels.

Washer layout

2 '- Precautions to be taken

Move the trivet onto a new clean sheet of plastic. Let it dry well, respecting the times indicated on the silicone you used.

8 '- Finishing

Cut the mesh on the back and apply silicone nuts under each washer. Let it dry well.

Advice

Do not hesitate on the choice of silicone: really select a product that is water resistant, the ideal being silicone in a tube of approximately 200 milliliters that is used for joints in bathrooms or kitchens . These products should preferably be used outside or in a well-ventilated room. 20 Metal and wire objects © éditions Flammarion, 2004
